Edward Bass Directs Belle
Hollywood is always on the look out for screenplays that can bring box office hits for their film projects. And when independent film director, writer and producer Edward Bass announced he was helming a movie about the most notorious serial murderer in US History, they must have dropped their jaw in regret to have missed such an opportunity. But knowing the highly commercial take of Hollywood mainstream studios, critics can relax knowing that the movie will be directed by someone considered a non-conformist in commercialized movie directing.
The movie is currently under pre production stage and has taken some bit of excitement as news have it that Angelina Jolie would be getting the plum role of the serial killer Belle Gunness, a Norwegian émigré who reputedly killed more than 40 people over several years in La Porte, Indiana. These were mostly her suitors but included her husbands and her children. There’s every cinematic opportunity for the story to be a hit and Edward Bass may be adding a new feather in his career after the critical success of the Emilio Estevez film “Bobby” about the late Senator Robert Kennedy which Edward produced in 2006.
As may be expected, Edward Bass harbors high expectations on the film. This is not the first public exposure on the subject as the year 2005 saw the release of a 50-minute documentary “Belle Gunness: a serial killer from Selbu” by Anne Verit Vestby. But whether the role will eventually go to Angelina Jolie or someone else, it has potential Oscar winning acting for the title role and the movie itself has box office promise.
